Effective: 26 October 2026
sofasogood helps two people agree on what to watch. You each swipe
on TV shows, and the ones you both like become your shared list. This
policy explains what the app collects, why, and what you can do about
it.
sofasogood is made by Ben Wilder, an individual developer in the UK,
who is responsible for your data under UK data protection law (UK
GDPR). "We" in this policy means Ben Wilder.
Information we collect
Your account
- Your name and email address, from Sign in with
Apple. If you choose Hide My Email, we only see Apple's relay
address. Your name is stored with your account but isn't shown to
anyone, including your partner.
- An account ID, a random identifier created when
you first sign in.
Using the app
- Your sofa: the sofa you create or join, who is on
it, and its settings (streaming services, country, hidden genres and
language).
- Your swipes, the matches they make and the status
you give each show on your list (To watch,
Watching, Watched).
- Invite codes you create, and when they were used,
plus a record of failed attempts to join a sofa (to stop codes being
guessed).
- Nudges: if you allow notifications, a push token
for your phone, so nudges reach you, and whether you've turned nudges
off. Your partner can nudge you, and the app nudges you itself when
shows are waiting and you haven't swiped for a day or more (at most
three times, then not until you swipe again). We record when each
nudge was sent, so they stay spaced out. A nudge says how many shows are waiting for
your swipe, never which ones or how your partner voted.
Errors and usage
- Error reports: when something goes wrong, the app
and our server send a report with technical details (what failed, the
app version, the phone model and iOS version) and your account ID.
These are always sent, so we can fix problems.
- Usage events: a small, fixed set of events such as
"created a sofa", "joined a sofa", "swiped" and "got a first match",
with counts and steps only. They never include show titles, names or
invite codes. You can turn these off at any time with Share
usage data in Our sofa. Error reports are still
sent.
What we don't collect
- No advertising, and nothing is used to track you across other
companies' apps or websites.
- No location from your phone. The country in your sofa's settings
is one you choose.
- No contacts, photos, camera, microphone or health data.
- No payments or in-app purchases.
- Your IP address isn't stored with your usage events or error
reports.
How we use it
- To run the app (your account, your sofa, your
swipes and your list). This is needed to provide the service you asked
for.
- To find and fix errors, which is in our legitimate
interest in keeping the app working.
- To understand how the app is used, for example
whether people finish setting up a sofa, which is in our legitimate
interest in improving it. You can opt out with Share usage
data.
Sharing
We don't sell your data or share it for advertising. Your
partner sees your sofa's settings, your matches and your list,
and how many shows you've swiped that they haven't (for nudges), but not
your individual swipes. A show only appears for both of you
when you've both liked it.
We use these service providers, who process data on our behalf:
- Supabase stores your account, sofa, swipes and
list, and runs our server, in London, UK.
- PostHog receives error reports and usage events,
stored in the EU.
- Apple provides Sign in with Apple, and TestFlight
while the app is in testing. If you test through TestFlight, Apple
shares your feedback, crash reports and the email you were invited
with.
- Expo delivers app updates and, through Apple,
notifications for nudges. Your phone contacts
Expo's servers to check for updates.
Show information comes from a third-party catalogue service. It
receives your sofa's country and streaming services to find shows, but
nothing that identifies you.
Data retention and deletion
- Your data is kept while you have an account.
- Delete your account at any time in Our
sofa. Your account, swipes and matches are deleted straight away,
and so is your shared list, for both you and your partner. The app
offers to export the list first. Deleting also revokes Sign in with
Apple and deletes your usage events and error reports in PostHog.
- Uninstalling the app doesn't delete your account. Delete it in the
app first.
- Copies may remain in our providers' backups for a short time before
they are overwritten.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data,
and you can object to our use of it. Email us (below) and we'll reply
within one month. You can also complain to the UK Information
Commissioner's Office
(ico.org.uk).
Children's privacy
sofasogood isn't aimed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly
collect their data. If you believe a child has signed up, contact us and
we'll delete the account.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the new version will appear on this page with
a new effective date. For significant changes, we'll also tell you in
the app.
